Kary Janousek Solo Exhibition Sept/Oct 2024

Winner of the Gretchen Kottke Gallerist’s Award in this year’s annual The 64th Midwestern at The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum, Friedli Gallery is proud to present a body of her work for this incredible show!

Featuring experimental ambrotypes, that involve layering, hand embellishment, and colored stained glass. This exhibition of work will also feature some select tintype photographs in this series called “Surviving Silver”.

Born near the Ohio river. Kary has always had a great love of history, fashion, music, creative writing, and art. While she has dabbled in many of these fields, Kary never had the luxury of a formal education in fine arts or photography. Kary learned the wet plate collodion process in the Autumn of 2019 After modeling for a series of ambrotypes. She fell in love with the unique quality of the resulting images, and hasen’t looked back.

Kary lives in Fargo North Dakota where she operates her natural Light Victorian studio part-time and sells vintage and antique hats. Kary often travels to historical sites and museums, making the past present for rural communities across the Dakota’s.
